The veteran sustained an injury during the course of the IPL 2023 season. He was doubtful for a couple of matches but managed to play it out as CSK won their 5th IPL title in a grand manner. They beat Guajrat Titans in a thrilling IPL final on Monday (May 29) to become the joint most successful franchise in IPL’s history.
There were multiple reports which suggested Dhoni was playing with his knee injury. Even the CSK coach Stephen Flemming confirmed Dhoni had an issue. Although the 41-year-old managed to battle through the season without any major issue, he is looking to find a solution in coming days.
According to Revsportz, Dhoni will be admitted to Mumbai’s famous Kokilaben Hospital this week and undergo tests which can determine the extent of his knee injury.
The former India captain’s retirement speculation was a massive thing throughout the tournament. CSK garnered massive support across stadiums courtesy of Dhoni as fans poured all their love for MSD amid the retirement conundrum.
But the CSK captain cleared he is aiming to play at least another year in the Indian Premier League.

“Looking for an answer? Circumstantially if you see this is the best time for me to announce retirement. But the amount of love and affection that I have been shown, wherever I have been this year. I think the easy thing for me to say would be to say ‘Thank you very much’, but the tough thing for me would be to work hard for nine months and come back and play at least one more season of IPL. But a lot depends on the body,” Dhoni said at the post-match presentation of the IPL 2023 Final.
And this comes as a precaution from the veteran to sort out the knee issue as he aims to give another push to his illustrious IPL career.
