UAE vs WI key players
UAE (Wicketkeepers: Vriitya Aravind, Aryansh Sharma) Vriitya Aravind made a strong case for himself with a knock of 40 in the last ODI while teenage Aryansh Sharma so far has struggled to adjust to senior cricket after moving in from U-19 team.
(Batter: Muhammad Waseem, Asif Khan, Rameez Shahzad) Skipper Muhammad could only secure a duck in the first ODI but he has been in good form with a 160 against Singapore in April. Asif Khan scored 27 in the last game and has been playing decent knocks off late but none turned into big knocks while Rameez Shahzad hasn’t been in the best of form.
(All-rounders: Rohan Mustafa, Ayan Afzal Khan, Ali Naseer) Rohan Mustafa has struggled with the bat since scoring a half-century back in April but has picked up six wickets in his last five games.
Teenager Ali Naseer is seen as an upcoming talent and scored a half-century on his international debut for the UAE. The lower-order batter is known for his ability to score runs quickly while Ayan Afzal Khan has picked eight wickets in the last five games.
(Bowlers: Karthik Meiyappan, Junaid Siddique, Zahoor Khan) Leg spinner Karthik Meiyappan is a crucial bowler for the side but has went wicketless in the last two games after taking seven wickets on the go in three games. Veteran pacer Zahoor Khan has picked just four wickets in his last five games while fellow pacer Junaid Siddique has no wickets to show in the last four games.
Their lack of effectiveness may lead to opportunities for the younger pace options in Matiullah, Muhammad Jawad Ullah and Sanchit Sharma. The trio fared well with the ball in the ILT20 earlier this year.
WI (Wicketkeeper: Shai Hope, Johnson Charles) Both Hope and Charles have been in good form this year with centuries in South Africa back in March. Charles played some electrifying knocks in the Bangladesh Premier League as well while the skipper had a short County stint with Yorkshire, scoring two half-centuries.
(Batters: Shamarh Brooks, Brandon King, Kaecy Carty) Brandon King is the Dream11 favourite after a century in the first ODI while Shamarh Brooks executed form as well with a knock of 44 after struggling in the South Africa series.
Kaecy Carty’s return to the West Indies team didn’t go as per plan with just seven runs to his name. His recent form in the domestic circuit wasn’t anything extraordinary as well.
(All-rounders: Roston Chase, Keemo Paul, Kavem Hodge) Keemo Paul made a strong international return with a 3-for after the all-rounder had limited bowling exposure in the SA20 earlier this year. Spin all-rounder Roston Chase’s performance with the white ball hasn’t been inspiring but did play good knocks in a Test against Zimbabwe earlier this year.
(Bowlers: Odean Smith, Dominic Drakes, Yannic Cariah) Fellow spinner Yannic Cariah understood the Sharjah surface better and picked two wickets as well. Dominic Drakes and Odean Smith bagged two dismissals as well with the former making his ODI debut following a good domestic stint.
