WTC Final 2023: Marnus Labuschagne forced to take painkiller after getting hit by nasty Mohammed Siraj delivery

Labuschagne was just 10-ball-old in the middle when Siraj’s full length delivery bowled at 243 km/h bounced viciously and hit the left thumb of Labuschagne. The incident on the first ball of the eighth over saw the right-hand batter throw away his bat in pain.

The Australian physio rushed in the middle and catered to Labuschagne’s injury. He was seen touching, feeling and moving the Australian number three’s thumb to ensure that no major damage was done. Soon Labuschagne was seen popping in a painkiller.

Earlier, Siraj had charged down to Labuschagne in his follow through and made a glaring eye contact with him before saying a few words. The 29-year-old pacer was charged up after helping India draw first blood by dismissing in-form opener Usman Khawaja (0 off 10) in the fourth over.

India opted to bowl first after winning the toss and entered the match with four pacers – Siraj, Mohammed Shami, Umesh Yadav and Shardul Thakur. Ravichandran Ashwin – the number one ranked Test bowler in the world – has been benched.

David Warner and Labuschagne had completed the 50-run stand between them when this article was published.
