WWE NXT: Free Agent ambushes NXT Champion; Battle Royal announced

As seen on this week’s episode of NXT, NXT Champion Carmelo Hayes agreed to put his NXT Championship on the line against the NXT Heritage Cup Champion Noam Dar. The two then met in the main event of the show.

Ringside shenanigans were thrown by Hayes and Dar’s respective allies but in the end, the champion was victorious after connecting with his pendant Nothing but Net leg-drop finishing maneuver. A surprise was thereafter reserved for him.

Hayes was celebrating his victory with the title with Trick Williams by his side when “Free Agent” Baron Corbin attacked him from behind and laid him out with the End of Days. Corbin then posed with the NXT Title to send the show off-air.

Corbin has been a “Free Agent” since the 2023 edition of Draft in early May. He was neither picked by the Raw nor Smackdown brand. His most recent stint saw him getting rejected as a main-eventer by WWE Hall of Famer JBL.

After last night’s NXT arrival, it’s certain that Corbin would be used on WWE’s third brand, moving forward. He never had the opportunity to hold the NXT Championship before his original main roster call-up in 2016.

Mustafa Ali was another “Free Agent” to show up on this week’s NXT. He showed up during the tag team match where NXT North American Champion Wes Lee and Tyler Bate defeated The Dyad of Schism.

Ivy Nile attacked The Rock’s daughter Ava Raine in the match while Joe Gacy attacked Lee and Bate, which led to Ali making the save. Later, Ali revealed that he might get a title match against the North American Champion Wes Lee.

In more news from NXT, all the women’s locker room members of the division will get a chance to challenge for the Women’s Championship when they take part in a huge battle royal, next week.

The reigning NXT Women’s Champion Tiffany Stratton invited the entire NXT women’s locker room to surround the ring during her “Tiffibration” segment following her title match win against Lyra Valkyria, this past weekend during Battleground.

During this celebration, Tiffany revealed that next week, a battle royal match will go down where the winner will be declared the new number-one contender for her title. No update is there on when the title match will happen.

After that announcement was made, Thea Hale jumped in the ring and hammered away at Stratton. The rest of the women then quickly jumped in and tried to get their hands on the champion. Tiffany quickly retreated from the ring.

As of this writing, 17 NXT Women Superstars are being officially advertised to take part in the Battle Royal including former champions like Roxanne Perez, Gigi Dolin, Jacy Jayne, Kiana James, and Fallon Henley.
